Default Wind River License Not Found

When opening Wind River, receiving error "License Not Found". With additional verbage of:

"Something went wrong while looking for the license: Overall License for the Wind River Workbench"

"Could not set up License Management
    Details:
The License-Library was not found, licensing disabled
See the logfile for more Information!"

This is happening on two of our three PC's running XP.

Where can we find the "logfile"? Perhaps it will help.

Also, this may be related: The Wind River Registry states that it "Cannot find WIND_HOME directory...".

You're not alone. I am getting the same thing. I have tried reinstalling WindRiver several times (yes that is several wasted hours each time). I've tryed renaming the PC per a previously reported licensing bug but that did not help. I'm at a loss.

I've gotten it to work. I did several things though. Not sure which one fixed my problem. My best guess is using the uninstall programs to get rid of Wind River before reinstalling. I used Windows search from c:\Windriver to find a half dozen different uninstall programs. I ran each one then deleted anything that was left. One was in a subdirectory called lisence_patch... That may be the key. I also uninstalled LabView as well this time (just trying everything). I then renamed the computer and did a complete reinstall and update. It only took all evening!

Today when I finished, Wind River worked. I did get a warning on start up about "Wind River Registry created a new database at C:/WindRiver/.wind/wtxregd.mycomputername". Since the last last part of the file name is my computer's name, I'm thinking the problem may have had something to do with the fact I had renamed the computer to get around a NI installation problem and now it didn't match the new computer name. If you are still having the problem, I'd suggest seeing if this file name matches your computer's name. If not change the computer name to match.

I actually encountered the OP's problem today.

I've done the Windriver and/or LabView install on several PCs now -- this is the first time I've seen it, and with a clean PC (new XP install with only a few other pieces of software) no less.

The problem in my case was caused by "something" (no idea what) corrupting the system PATH environment variable. It had corrupted it in such a way that environment variables within the PATH would not get expanded. So, in this case, PATH containing %SystemRoot% (as it always does) would NOT expand, as it should, to C:\WINDOWS (or wherever on your system). This can be tested by Start->Run, cmd. Type path and hit enter at the prompt. If you see %SystemRoot% rather than the real path for your system root, then you have the same issue.

To fix: Control Panel->System->Advanced Tab->Environment Variables button. At the bottom, under System Variables (NOT under "User" variables!) find PATH in the list, click edit. Add any old character to the end, hit OK. Then Edit again, remove the character you added. Hit OK all the way back out. This will reinitialize the registry to properly expand environment variables in PATH without actually making permanent changes to your PATH value.

Restart Windriver and you should be good to go.
No uninstall/reinstall necessary (save yourself several hours!).

Oh - my best guess at the root cause? I had an MS Office install abort due to an shoddy CD. It attempted to back out the install. My guess is it screwed up the registry during that process....

Worked for me too! Thanks, I've got a cRIO in my study and I'm working on pre-season workshops. No idea what went wrong, but I hadn't run WRW in months.
