    Default New Update? 2009-01-22c1

The control system page has a new update for the Driver's Station. Other than it quietly showing up a few days ago, there's been no other comment on it. Is this a mandatory update. Has anybody tried it? What is it supposed to fix?

The update was released and provides some improvements:

    - reset of cRIO from DS through holding the 3 buttons down and then pressing select.
    - improved team Display options with a 2nd screen and some example cRIO code for display
    - blocking of joysticks during autonomous enable mode, needed and required for competition.
    - updates for FMS status packets.

IMHO, this was released in "stealth mode". At a minimum, it should have been noted in a Team Update as required for competition.

The only thing on the FRC 2009 Control System page is the dsud_pkg.bin file. Where are these cRIO code examples for display?

To reset the cRIO, (after holding down the 3 buttons), the select button must be pressed for between 1/2 and 2 seconds. If you hold it too long (or too short) it cancels the reboot command as a safety. This might take a few times to get the timing right, but shouldn't be hard to do after a few minutes practice.

FIRST/NI is aware of the missing examples, and is working on getting them posted.

I will post these examples shortly as a think tank article.

Do you have a link to the code examples?
