Default No Wi-fi Driver for E14 Classmate

    Hello,

Our team recently obtained the newest classmate (E14) and we installed the E14 image on it according to the guide on the wpi site (http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...image-download). However, there is no Wi-Fi driver installed and I can't seem to find one newer than the E11 driver online. We used an Ethernet connection to activate windows, install the driver station, etc., but we still need the Wi-Fi driver to connect to the robot via wireless. Any suggestions?

Our additional attempt at solving this involved going into the "Device Manager" and looking at the "Network adapters". However, there was only one network adapter and it was up-to-date. I didn't think about writing it down and we've left it at the shop for the day, but I think it was called Realtek PCIe or something like that. I don't think that's the Wi-Fi device anyway.

    Welcome to the FIRST Forums!

We just checked our E14s here that were imaged using the image file provided and they have the WiFi drive installed and functional. It seems odd that the device would not show up in the Device Manager even if there was not a driver for it. Do you have any devices that show up in the "Other devices" group?

Yes, there are two devices in the "Other devices" group. However, Windows doesn't give me a name or any info about the devices. I assume that one of those is the Wi-Fi device. We received no errors at all during the installation, so I'm surprised your team got the Wifi driver.

If you right click on those entries, select Properties -> Details and make sure Hardware Ids is selected in the box, can you post what shows up in the box for each of the two devices?

We have applied the image to the E14s we have here at FIRST multiple times, including applying after downloading from the public site and always had the WiFi driver install. I'm wondering if there may be a variant with a different WiFi chip.

    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8178&CC_028000
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8178&CC_0280

    Unknown Device:

I put the hardware id into google and found a driver installer(virus free). Wi-Fi works now.

Thanks for the feedback. That does appear to be slightly different than the E14 we have here (though they're close enough that I'm surprised the driver didn't install properly). Judging by the device information, the auto installers under "RTL8188CE" on this page: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Downloads=true should be the correct driver.
