sand paper

I see the note about not being able to use sand paper - what if we coat it with something not so abrasive, but that will grip the balls.

Or what if we use sand paper in a way that won't abraid?

BTW - We've tried a wheel as a launcher and the wheel we used was a lot tougher on the ball than the sandpaper.

In general, shooting mechanisms that do not damage the ball are acceptable.
