    Default Clarification on wedge protection

    From http://forums.usfirst.org/showthread...ighlight=wedge

    ORIGINAL: GDC

From <R04>, "All parts of a robot that might push against another robot must be within 10 degrees of vertical." If you protect the wedge portion of your drawbridge from making contact with another robot, then it would not be in violation of <R04>.
Can protecting the potential wedge (in our case, a drawbridge-style ball dump) from other robots be a responsibility of the drivers, as in they only lower it when they are at the side goals and ready to dump, then bring it up before they leave that position? The sides of the drawbridge that might contact other robots are vertical (to guide the balls), and the drawbridge never touches the ground. The bottom of it is within the bumpber zone only when it is lowered, and it is made of metal too thin to pose a real threat of wedging. Can we rely on our drivers to keep the drawbridge from contacting other robots, or must it be mechanically protected even though by design it should never be down when it might contact other robots?

Default Re: Clarification on wedge protection

To avoid being in violation of Rule <R04> all parts of the drawbridge between 0 and 8.5 inches from the ground that might push against another robot must be within 10 degrees of vertical or you must protect the wedge portion of your drawbridge from making contact with another robot. This must be mechanical protection, and not virtual protection offered by the actions of the drivers.
