Hello all,
Below are my recommended steps when configuring your Qualification Matches.
1) Determine the start, end, lunch period, number of matches per team, and time between matches for your Qual tournament. This is all configured on the Event Configuration page of the Event Wizard.
2) Click Next
3) Generate a match schedule by selecting "Generate Perpetual Opponent" or "Generate Random". I go into the differences a few lines down. Right now all we're doing in making sure that the desired # of matches per team fits into the time frame set on the Event Configuration screen. You'll probably have to go back and forth between this Qual Schedule screen and the Event Configuration until you have your times and match number set.
4) Once you have decided on the number of matches each team will play it is time to decide on the way the alliances will be created. There are two options, Perpetual Opponent (the method used for Week 1 events) and Random (the modified algorithm developed this week). I'm going to assume that everyone chooses the Random method.
5) Click Generate Random. A match list will be created using the Random method and should coincide with the time parameters already set.
6) Click on the Statistics tab. Go to this thread for definitions of the content in each column. Link
7) CRITICAL STEP: Make sure that EVERY TEAM has the same number of matches in the "Played" column. This number should match the Matches Per Team on the Event Configuration screen (under General). If every team does not, click Generate Random again.
8) Continue to cycle the matches (by pressing Generate Random) until an "optimum" situation occurs. "Optimum" being when all, or at least a large majority, of the teams only play in the same match together 1/3 of the time. Obviously this becomes difficult and/or unlikely for the smaller Regionals, but it's the direction I was given from Game Design. This process should probably be done with the FTA and Field Supervisor present.
Regards,
-Matt
