    Default Polarized Glasses for Drivers

It has come to our attention that there is considerable glare from the
polycarbonate that is used for the lane divider. Please see the following
    evidence as posted on chiefdelphi.com

This glare results in reflections that obscure the driver's ability to see
the opposite side of the field which puts robots in jeopardy due to
unforeseen high speed collisions. We witnessed several of these at this
very location on the field at the regional. Two robots were broadsided at
high speed and tipped in the elimination rounds at one regional.

These reflections are vertically polarized and could potentially be
eliminated if drivers were to be able to wear polarized lenses with an
    unconventional polarization angle.

Can our drivers wear specially made polarized glasses under their safety
goggles or can we by adhesive-backed polarizing film and place this on the
outside surface of the driver's safety glasses to reduce these
    reflections.

We believe that this would create a safer environment, prevent unnecessary
robot damage and prevent drivers from slamming into the opponent's
driver's side wall. We only ask that this safety-glasses rule
modification be made for drivers during the time that they are driving the
robot. We believe that it will result in greater safety for all.

    Thanks,

    Team 1717

Teams are welcome and encouraged to use their coaches or robocoaches to aid in the control of their robot. Use of polarized sunglasses violates Rule <T22> because they are considered special equipment.

As a side note, polarized sunglasses were tested and ineffective in reducing the reflection from the polycarbonate on the field.
