I am part of a second year team trying to use a CAN Jaguar with an encoder to regulate the speed of the spinning wheel on our launcher, but we are having no success in communicating with the Jaguar to put in the correct firmware. Is there a souce or set of sources that I can use to make sure we're doing it right?

If your goal is to control the speed of a wheel, I recommend you use the encoder connected to the cRIO and run the control loop there. I have had difficulty tuning the speed control PID on the Jaguar.

I was actually looking for help with putting the firmware onto the jaguar.

If you installed the NI utilities update for FRC 2012, then your public documents/FRC dir should have legal firmware (v99). There is a newer version available from ti.com.

How about the serial/CAN converter, how should that be wired?

The end of this document from Ti.com/jaguar describes the cabling
