Team Name

I am a new coach who is planning to start a FLL team. The question that I have is that can the team name be changed after registration ? I am still recruiting people but would like to register early and order the kit.

You can change your team name after you have registered. We did last year and I just verified that I can change the team name again this year.

Yes, registering and ordering the kit often comes before a rookie team actually meets and decides on their name. No worries.

Note that team names can (and hopefully will) live on into future seasons. In general, most will not select a teamname associated with that year's challenge. AgedJedis for example this year. Most select something more generic or associated with school/hometown/etc.

This 'identity' is an important component I believe.


Do note (when planning items like websites, names, tshirts, etc) that FLL team 'numbers' do change each season.

That being said you can change team 'names' if you want (or need to) pretty close up to your first event.

You can, but the name change might not catch up with you when you arrive at the event. Your team information at the time you are assigned to a tournament may be copied to an event coordinator's spreadsheet, and might not be updated after that. It depends on how assignments are made and tracked in your area.

If you are informed of your assignment with the "old" name, you may be able to request to have it changed in the event's listings.

As the others have said, Yes you can change the team name. I suggest picking a team name as a early team building exersice during your first team meetings.
