I don't think the lock is all that strong. I have some different parts with a similar locking mechanism. They work great for making poseable figures, but it doesn't take much force to adjust the angle. For a locking adjustable part you might want to look at "4273 Technic Connector Toggle Joint Toothed" or maybe even "3737c01 Technic Axle 10 Threaded" and "4698 Technic Axle Nut". I once used the friction locking characteristic of the worm gear to create a leveling adjustment.
