Funny Tom, I though exactly the same thing - started this thread, then went back to reread and realized it was the theme.

Sounds like a field trip to a middle school is in order. Oh, wait....

So is it just me or is anyone else not really excited about this theme? Maybe I am just not seeing the directions it can take. It seems like a very limited number of options for projects.

I was thinking the same thing.

I had the opposite reaction though I'm wondering how excited the kids will be.

It seems like the whole world is piloting innovations in learning. Seems like an endless number of options for projects.

I hate to say this but this is an area I keep up on and of the studies I have read have left a bad taste in my mouth.

I don't know what you mean by that?

I read hundreds / probably thousands of studies per year -- nothing related to education -- there's probably 5 that matter. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in education.

"FLL World Class" sounds like rebranding to me, rather than a Challenge theme.
Isn't the next year's Challenge traditionally announced at the World Championships in the spring? Everyone is still knocking the rough edges off of the current one.

Some teams are already done, so there is something to look forward, too. We've got a new team who is in that boat, but they are sticking with a few more weeks of Nature's Fury to solve more missions, and we'll do some other off-season robotics, too. And there are just a couple more weeks before everyone in our state is done. (That was fast!)

And yes, it's definitely the challenge for next year, as per the FLL Twitter feed: "Excited to announce 2014 FLL Challenge - FLL WORLD CLASS! http://shar.es/8j3OH @firstweets @frcteams @ftcteams View the teaser/logo"

Oh, and they just sent an email about it that arrived 10 seconds after I submitted the previous post.

I've got an idea for it that kids will love. Let's create some hands-on learning opportunities with a contest. Maybe a contest that uses robots? Robots and Lego, maybe? That would be cool.
