Look on the bright side - teams will get an extra year to work on their missions. After all, it's a tough robot game this year....

More seriously, I think FIRST is doing a promo for the upcoming 2019 world festivals that feature the 2018-2019 Into Orbit game for FLL, not for next season.

Follow the link to First and you can see that the video is above the 2018 World videos. It looks like a promo for 2019 World.
On the other hand, my team could use the extra time.

I asked my state coordinator about it and she said that this is really a promo for the 2019 FRC season and world competitions. Yeah, it's confusing & misleading, but whatever.

I was thinking, ok, at least change the table. OK, I guess if the project is still the same. Imagine what some teams would pull off if they had two years to get it done! Some teams would probably build actual rockets to fly to the moon! Not to say there AREN'T any teams doing that this year

There is actually a teaser video out for next year's theme, doesn't reveal much, but a lot of cityscapes and people walking over a cross-walk.

          Urban planning?

My guess is similar: Urban Development.

                According to the World Bank:
Globally, over 50% of the population lives in urban areas today. By 2045, the world's urban population will increase by 1.5 times to 6 billion. City leaders must move quickly to plan for growth and provide the basic services, infrastructure, and affordable housing their expanding populations need.

Don't they usually reveal the theme by now?

Yes. In fact, they have always made a big announcement about it at our state tournament in the first week of Dec. Not this year. Very mysterious!

We've been told by our organizers that FIRST decided to chance the schedule and announce the topic at the WF only :-(
