  • Time before first launch?

    Hi,

rookie coach here. my team believes they can have as much time as they want to setup the robot for the first run, so they are deciding their order of missions/runs accordingly. Just wondering if that is a fair assumption? Or does the timer start and then you get to touch the robot to align it or add attachments...etc. The rules say the first launch starts from a countdown or Beep but not how much time is given to the team to setup or what is allowed or not allowed once they reach the table but before the countdown/beep.

    any help is appreciated.

Tournaments that I have been to usually get team a couple minutes to prepare before starting the count down. They are usually on a tight schedule, teams do not have "as much time as they want". If your team is fairly organized, they shouldn't have any difficulty being ready in 1-2 mi

As rdlarson91 pointed out, teams don't have "as much time as they want", but they do have a couple minutes to unpack and setup their robot and attachments as desired.
If you do have a mission that needs a little extra setup time, it is a reasonable strategy to do that one first to avoid using up too much of your 2 minutes 30 seconds of actual game time.

The rules do say; see R09. Teams get at least one minute; in the Kansas City region we stagger matches, so one set of fields is setting up while another is running a match. So our teams typically get 2 or 3 minutes, depending on how long it took for the refs & teams to go over the field from the previous match. If we start running behind that might be pushed, but only so much. Your mileage may vary in other regions, but you do get the minute. Your best bet to find out what your team will encounter is to ask your regional partner or the coordinator of the tournament you'll be attending.

Please post your questions in one place, not two. It'll get found.

It really isn't necessary to post the same question twice.
