  • Most popular animal for projects in Animal Allies?

A couple of the project judges at our last tournament had a side bet on what would be the most popular animal for the projects they judged.

The bet ended up being a push, as "bees' and "dogs" both were the topic of about half a dozen projects.

Any other popular animals this season?

Deer and bees seemed to be popular around here (Indiana).

The team I worked with most this years chose to research bees. I wondered how popular bees were going to be (thinking very) so at the first tournament I judged I asked each team about their research project. Eight of sixteen teams chose to research bees. At the second tournament only six of sixteen teams I talked to chose bees.

The team I coach has nine members. Each submitted an animal to the team for consideration for the project. None of them chose bees.

Around here (Massachusetts) I've seen a lot of bee-related projects. No other animal stands out.

In our qualifier tournament (North Texas region) we had at least three teams (of 26 I think) which worked with bees. One of my friends coaches a team in Georgia who also did bees. I was quite happy when my team decided on snakes.

Slightly related, the over abundance of "bee teams" this year has made our standard t-shirt color choice of yellow/gold less unique. It makes my team members harder to pick out of the crowds as I actually have to do more than just look for the t-shirt color like most years. Ah well. Next year there will probably be swaths of blue shirts (along with the multiple teams who always wear black and the hoard of teams from the one Christians school who are all in red) and my job as coach will be that much easier again.

              Most common (that I remember)

Bees (mostly colony collapse related, one idea for a quadcopter style transport habitat)
Deer (two road apps and a neat warning sign to get deer to move away from the road)

had a couple with parrots...and two, at the same qualifier, for African Wild Dogs.

              We are in Rhode Island.

In upstate NY we've had a lot of Bees and Bats. More bees than bats, but the bats are succumbing to white nose syndrome up here in the frozen north, which makes them a popular threatened population.

My teams chose deer and chickens.

I judged project a couple of times this year, and was at several state tournaments and a bunch of qualifiers.

                  Bees. Overwhelming favorite animal.
Deer and dogs tied for 2nd.

Several sharks and sea turtles, but as far as I know, only one team took up the Pangolin. Seriously.

My team chose horses. Specifically they chose to create a saddle to help trainers prepare horses for a rider. I will attach a picture of their working model built out of LEGO's.
