Re: Bumper Question - OSB Wood?

Hi, OSB is not suggested in the rule book, just plywood or solid wood. It doesn't hold a screw well, crumbles, strips, and is very heavy. If I'm not mistaken I think there is a limit on bumper weight of 20lb. Also not the best stuff to breathe in when cut. Good Luck!

The blue box in R21 says,
Particle board or chipboard is not likely to survive the rigors of FRC gameplay and thus not compliant with R21-A.
It doesn't specify OSB, but it is generally recognized that OSB is not as strong as plywood. To be sure, ask Q&A as jross has suggested.

    Bumper Question - OSB Wood?

We ran out of 3/4" plywood but have 3/4" (probably 23/32) OSB Sheathing available. The regs require plywood or "solid, robust wood". OSB is not technically plywood and is not solid in the sense of being one piece (it's made from glued wood pieces). It's not the same as particle board though; it's pretty strong for bumper use (it's used for building sub-floors in houses). Could someone please confirm that OSB Sheathing is or is not acceptable for the bumper? Thank you!!
